An underground city found in Turkey’s touristic Cappadocia will “rewrite the history of the city,” according to the mayor in the Central Anatolian Nevşehir province, adding they had discovered people had permanently lived in the underground city, unlike other cities which were mostly carved into rocks for temporary protection. French filmmaker Tony Gatlif is the head of the international feature film competition jury of the inaugural festival, which also has competitive sections for national feature films and national short films. Excavation works carried out in the eastern province of Erzincan’s Kemah district have unearthed a millennium-old Turkish neighborhood. Atatürk University History of Art Department Professor Hüseyin Yurttaş said after discovering Bey Mosque and bath, the team had focused on civil architecture and continued excavations by looking at Evliya Çelebi’s “Book of Travels.” Link

The annual art fair Contemporary İstanbul (Cİ) wrapped up its landmark 10th edition with record admission numbers, its organizers announced on Monday. The fair was seen by 84,000 art lovers and connoisseurs over five days, which also included an invitation-only preview on Nov. 11. Link
