Cultural policies which have been on the agenda for long years in Europe and formed the basis of international activities and the analyses and discussions in this field have a very brief history in Turkey. The issue of cultural policies in Turkey started to be discussed firstly within arts and culture circles over the past 10-15 years and then it permeated the academic settings and finally it has become an apparent field of study highlighted by official institutions and the relevant ministry.
This study entitled Introduction to Cultural Policies in Turkey is comprised of articles authored by academicians conducting projects and giving lectures at different universities on this issue. This study which is an introduction to the issue tries to review the situation related to the development of cultural policies in Turkey and the application of the policies that were developed while identifying the components that make up the field in question and describing the need for discussing these from a critical perspective.
We hope that this study will pave the way for more comprehensive research studies and contribute to establishing a new discussion platform on cultural diversity, rights and cultural democracy.
