Cultural Policies in Turkey from a Civic Perspective Report

Cultural Policies in Turkey from a Civic Perspective Report

Turkey has undertaken to participate in the National Cultural Policy Review Program of the Council of Europe in 2007.  The studies for preparing the Cultural Policy National Report initiated within this framework still continue.  184 people comprised of culture and arts institutions, civil society organizations, artists and experts who could not find the opportunity to participate in this process in Turkey have tried a brand new method that has not been attempted before and prepared a cultural policy through a collective study.  The summary report included in this book is a first within the framework of the Council of Europe program.  The report also constitutes an example in terms of the civil society taking initiative and responsibility related to public issues.
The book includes the speeches of the directors of national and international institutions on cultural policy and this study made during the meeting organized at Istanbul Bilgi University on 25-26 March 2011 and where the draft report was discussed.
Nowadays when the global crisis has absorbed all of the industries and acquired a structural property, the resources allocated for culture and arts are significantly reduced.  In such an environment where the resources are limited, creative solutions become increasingly more important.
In summary, this book which includes a report summarizing the cultural policy of the civil society, may be used as a reference guide.
