Need for a Global Response to Violence and Hate
Ten months after the tragedy of Charlie Hebdo, a new tragedy that affected Paris has shocked us, left us without words. There are no words to express the deep sorrow and revolt that we, as citizens of the world, feel faced with this terrorist attack and the other attacks that in this new century have occurred in many countries, such as Iraq, Nigeria, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria, Indonesia, in many cities, such as Mumbai in 2008, Beirut and Baghdad several days ago... We are facing hate and violence whose victims are mainly young people. Political analyst Melissa Clarke rightly concludes: "If it seems like terrorist attacks are happening more and more often, it is because they are." By attacking the places of labour and culture, markets, sports stadiums and concert halls, our way of life, our freedom of expression, and our world view are attacked. We are witnessing a threat to global security.
Cultural networks throughout the world always have been engaged and are engaged in the struggle for openness and peace, tolerance and solidarity, communication and cooperation, for a world of cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue. Cultural networks always work towards integration and social cohesion. They stand for a world without walls, both in a symbolic and the real meaning. Acting to the benefit of cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue is never enough: today, intercultural dialogue lies at the core of international activities, and is, as UNESCO emphasizes, one of the key challenges facing humanity. It is an essential process in building new social and cultural models in a changing world, a world that should be much more open-ended and open-minded than the actually existing one, a world for all of us who want to live in peace and harmony with all the others who want the same, regardless of what they eat, to whom they pray for peace and understanding, what languages they speak or how they express their hopes, who play, dance, paint or act whether as hosts or as guests. After all, we all are both hosts and guests to each other at the same time.
For these same reasons, we must build a world without hate and xenophobic reactions demonstrated by some European governments and parts of the population concerning the world's largest mass migration/refugee crisis since World War II, e.g. the paths of desperate people on the Balkan route.
Terrorism, extreme poverty and degradation/devastation of our planet must be stopped, for they basically reinforce each other. Towards that end, it is necessary to strengthen the UN system in search for responses to the challenges faced by all countries of the world.

1. EUROPEAN REGISTRARS CONFERENCE
Upon invitation from the Austrian Registrars Committee (ARC), the European Registrars Conference will take place in Vienna, Austria, on 8 - 10 June 2016. Under the motto 'Out of the Box' those working behind the scenes of exhibitions are invited to submit an abstract for the conference. The deadline for the submission of topic suggestions and drafts is 18 December 2015.
2. ELIA BIENNIAL CONFERENCE: TURN MIRRORS INTO WINDOWS
The 14th ELIA Biennial Conference will take place in Florence, Italy, on 30 November - 3 December 2016, in partnership with higher arts education institutions and cultural authorities of the city. The theme of the conference is Turn Mirrors into Windows. Call for presentations deadline is 5 January 2016.
3. INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON DIGITAL MEDIA AND ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION
The Department of Information and Communication, IUT/University of Le Havre, France, is organizing a fourth international conference focusing on digital communication: Digital Media and Electronic Communication, which will take place in Le Havre, France, on 1 - 3 June 2016. The abstract submission deadline is 31 January 2016.
4. INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CREATIVE INDUSTRIES AND DIGITAL CULTURE
The international conference on Creative Industries and Digital Culture (ICCIDC) will be held in Istanbul, Turkey, on 16 April 2016. The aim of the ICCIDC 2016 conference is to reflect present day phenomena challenging the world of creative industries. The deadline for the submission of abstracts is 15 January 2016.
5. CONFERENCE ON ARTS AND CREATIVITY: WORKING ON IDENTITY AND DIFFERENCE
The ESA Research Network Sociology of the Arts announces its 9th midterm conference on Arts and Creativity: Working on Identity and Difference which will take place at the University of Porto, Faculty of Arts and Humanities in Portugal, on 8 - 10 September 2016. The deadline for abstracts and proposals submission is 15 February 2016.
6. NEW JOURNAL: ARTS AND INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS
Arts and International Affairs (AIA) is a new open access peer-reviewed academic journal and one of the official journals of the Policy Studies Organization dedicated to the publication and promotion of the nexus between the arts, politics and markets through a global perspective. The journal is open for its first submissions.

7. INTERNATIONAL ARTIST RESIDENCY PROGRAMME 2016
The Hungarian Multicultural Center (HMC) is announcing the an open call for its International Artist Residency Programme 2016 in Budapest, Hungary. The deadline for applications is 31 December 2015.
8. ARTISTS RESIDENCY IN CHILE AND AUSTRIA
Under the aegis of the European Digital Art and Science Network, the European Southern Observatory (ESO) and Ars Electronica are offering a residency in Chile and Austria to artists working in digital media art who are keen to engage in close-up encounters with the ESO's methods and technologies, and to draw scientific-artistic inspiration from this experience. Submission deadline is 10 January 2016.
9. CHANGE OF SCENE - INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATIONS IN THE PERFORMING ARTS 2016
The Robert Bosch Stiftung, together with the German Centre of the International Theatre Institute (ITI) announces the grant programme for international collaborations in the performing arts 2016, with partners from North Africa and Eastern Europe. The deadline for applications is 15 February 2016.
10. CREATIVE PARTNERS
In order to help arts and cultural organizations in their attempts to work across Europe, Euclid has launched two initiatives: Creative Partners Directory of organizations who are seeking partners to participate in project applications to the EU in 2016, and Creative.Partners Website as a free platform where people can search for partners for their projects.

11. ICPS POLICY SKILLS TRAINING PROGRAMMES 2016
The International Centre for Parliamentary Studies (ICPS) organizes two certificated training programmes, the Professional Certificate in Policy Implementation and Evaluation and the Professional Certificate in Strategic Policy Planning, taking place in London, UK in early 2016. An early registration rate for both courses is available until 15 December 2015.
12. MA IN VISUAL CULTURE AND CONTEMPORARY ART (ViCCA)
The School of Art, Design and Architecture of Aalto University, Finland welcomes applications for the two-year MA programme in Visual Culture and Contemporary Art (ViCCA). The programme explores new forms of artistic production and professional agency within the broader field of contemporary art and visual culture. The deadline for admissions is 15 January 2016.
13. MASTER IN INTERNATIONAL ARTS MANAGEMENT 2016-2017
The Master of Management in International Arts Management, a joint programme with HEC Montreal, Canada, the Southern Methodist University, Dallas, USA, and SDA Bocconi, Milan, Italy offers international training that draws on the expertise of three of the world's top-ranked universities in the area of cultural management. Scholarships are available. Application deadlines are 15 January and 15 April 2016.

14. INTERPRET EUROPE CONFERENCE: HERITAGE INTERPRETATION - FOR THE FUTURE OF EUROPE
How heritage interpretation can help to experience and take action on important European subjects such as sustainability, lifelong learning, human rights, active citizenship and peace will be the topic of the conference Heritage Interpretation - for the Future of Europe, which will take place from 21 - 24 May 2016 in Mechelen, Belgium.

15. CULTURAL CLIMATE BAROMETER 2015
The Budapest Observatory launched the Cultural Climate Barometer 2015 on 2 November to diagnose the actual state of the environment of culture in many countries of Europe and beyond. The link to the survey will be alive for five weeks.

16. MAKING CULTURE COUNT. THE POLITICS OF CULTURAL MEASUREMENT
The publication Making Culture Count. The Politics of Cultural Measurement is inspired by the international conference Making Culture Count: Rethinking Measures of Cultural Vitality, Wellbeing and Citizenship, held in Melbourne in 2012. The book brings diverse perspectives to explore the burgeoning field of cultural measurement and its implications.
17. SURVEY ON MUSEUMS AND COPYRIGHT
The Network of European Museum Organisations (NEMO), an independent network of national museum organisations representing the museum community of the member states of the Council of Europe, recently published an online survey to give an overview of the most important issues that European museums face as regards copyright.
18. THE CHALLENGES OF MOBILITY. RESEARCH, DEBATES AND PRACTICES
The articles compiled over a period of three years within the Istikshaf programme and presented in the publication The Challenges of Mobility. Research, Debates and Practices, provide multiple perspectives that can help to advance the process of exploring mobility in the contemporary world.
19. THE ECOLOGY OF CULTURE: COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, CO-CREATION, CROSS FERTILIZATION
A new e-book entitled The Ecology of Culture: Community Engagement, Co-creation, Cross Fertilization includes a wide range of topics within the field of cultural policy and cultural management. Papers cover areas such as heritage, museums, performing arts, music, urban development, new audiences, community engagement, cultural leadership, and intercultural dialogue.
20. CULTURAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN THE 21st CENTURY
An essay on Cultural Entrepreneurship in the 21st Century written by Prof. Giep Hagoort and inspired by the First International Conference on Cultural Entrepreneurship in the USA, hosted by the University of Minnesota, Duluth (UMD) on 10 - 12 June 2015, aims to elaborate cultural entrepreneurship development as a dominant framework for the functioning of cultural organizations and creative managers in the 21st century.
