From the Focal Point
Cultural Leadership in the 21st Century
The focus of the 2016 World Summit on Arts and Culture will be on Cultural Leadership in the 21st Century. The summit will be held in Malta and it will, just as the previous editions of this unique global gathering, provide an opportunity for cultural operators, decision-makers, representatives of funding bodies and agencies as well as artists and researchers to reflect on some of the pressing issues and topics in the field of culture and cultural policies. The summit will address the issue of leadership and the importance of cultural leadership for cultural development. The perception where the role of leaders coincided with their position in the top-down organizational structures is no longer relevant. Today we know that leaders can be found in the smallest communities where, through extraordinary grass-route cultural initiatives, they induce change. The Summit will also provide an opportunity for representatives of different cultural networks to discuss their roles and leadership in promoting reflection and cooperation on various cultural policy issues. As one of the oldest networks in the field of culture, the Culturelink Network is pleased to be a partner with IFACCA in planning the Summit and promoting the idea of the importance of cultural leadership.

1. INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CULTURAL ECONOMICS
The University of Valladolid will host the 19th International Conference on Cultural Economics, presented by the Association for Cultural Economics International (ACEI). The Conference will be held in Valladolid, Spain, on 21 - 24 June 2016. The deadline for the submission of abstract is 31 January 2016. >>>
2. 7th WORLD SUMMIT ON ARTS AND CULTURE
The International Federation of Arts Councils and Cultural Agencies (IFACCA) and the Arts Council Malta (ACM) are inviting arts professionals, academics, producers, administrators, creators and arts workers to submit proposals for presentations at the 7th World Summit on Arts and Culture to be held in Valletta, Malta, on 18 - 21 October 2016. Proposals need to be submitted via an online form by 5 February 2016. >>>
3. ARTE-POLIS 6 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE AND WORKSHOP
Building on the successes of the first five Arte-Polis international conferences and workshops in 2006-2014, the Institute of Technology Bandung (ITB) presents Arte-Polis 6, an international conference and workshop on Imagining Experiences: Creative Tourism and the Making of Place, to be held on 4 -5 August 2016 in Bandung, Indonesia. The abstract submission deadline is 15 February 2016. >>>
4. FROM CONTESTED_CITIES TO GLOBAL URBAN JUSTICE: CRITICAL DIALOGUES
The International CONTESTED_CITIES Conference will be held in Madrid, Spain on 4 - 7 July 2016. The conference will represent a forum of radical academics, practitioners and activists from different theoretical, disciplinary and geographical backgrounds coming together to probe the multiple forms of urban injustice that shape cities across the world. The call for abstracts is open until 20 February 2016. >>>
5. WORLD ANTHROPOLOGIES AND PRIVATIZATION OF KNOWLEDGE: ENGAGING ANTHROPOLOGY IN PUBLIC
The Institute for Anthropological Research from Croatia, in collaboration with Slovenian colleagues from the Department for Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology, Ljubljana and the Association KULA, is organising the Inter-Congress of International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences (IUAES) that will be held in Dubrovnik, Croatia on 4 - 9 May 2016. 6. INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES AT THE ICD 2016
The Institute for Cultural Diplomacy (ICD) Internship Project (2008-17) is a 10-year programme aiming to enable students who need an internship as a compulsory part of their BA or graduate studies to engage in cultural diplomacy and in doing so, to further promote cultural diplomacy and multiculturalism worldwide. 7. EUROPEAN PRIZE FOR URBAN PUBLIC SPACE 2016
The Centre de Cultura Contemporà,nia de Barcelona (CCCB) announces the 9th European Prize for Urban Public Space, a biennial honorary competition created in 2000 to acknowledge the creation, recovery and improvement of public spaces, considering their condition to be a clear indicator of the democratic health of European cities. Entries may be submitted until 22 February 2016. >>>
8. INTERNATIONAL AWARD ON CULTURE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
With the support of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and the City of Mexico, the Agenda 21 of Culture is launching the second edition of the International Award UCLG - MEXICO CITY - Culture 21 on culture and sustainable development. The call for entries will close on 15 March 2016. >>>

The Umeå Academy of Fine Arts of the Umeå University at Umeå, Sweden offers an English-taught, two-year Master programme in Fine Arts. The programme comprises of supervised and individual projects, lectures, seminars, group tutorials and study trips. Application deadline is 1 March 2016. >>>

The Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, launches two new temporary master's programmes in September 2016: Reinventing Daily Life and Master of Voice. Application deadline is 1 April 2016. >>>
11. PhDARTS, PROGRAMME IN VISUAL ART AND DESIGN
PhDArts offers an international, high-level doctorate in art and design at Leiden University and the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, The Netherlands. 14. CULTURAL POLICY FOR THE ARTS IN DEVELOPMENT
The 9th International Conference on Cultural Policy Research (ICCPR2016) will take place in Seoul, Korea, on 5 - 9 July 2016, as the first conference in the Asian-Pacific region. It is expected to widen the perspective of cultural policy research and act as a platform of various research interests. Sookmyung Women's University, Graduate School of Public Policy and Industry and Center for Arts and Culture Management Research together with the Korea Arts Management Service will serve as co-hosts of the conference. >>>
